Damon Moseley
Damon Moseley, aka “Mojo,” is an American born mixed media artist native to Austin, TX. Raised as an only child by a single mother, he was instilled with a sense of activism all his life. His mother participated in the Civil Rights Movement and was a pioneer in her own field. As Damon’s artistic skills grew, he was compelled to use his voice to bring awareness to the contributions of Black Americans to American society.
Damon attended the Art Institute of Houston and has worked across multiple creative industries. This training has allowed him to become skilled in the use of a variety of mediums, tools, and materials, including painting, drawing, wood working, carving and fabrication. He brings the knowledge acquired while working in these different disciplines into his studio practice.
Damon works out of his private workshop known as “Mprint Studio.” He is best known for the creation of the lifestyle brand “Afroamericana,” a collection of images and merchandise that celebrate Black American history and culture. Damon’s work reroutes tropes to create social commentary on Black representation. His art can be found at exhibits across Austin as well as an installation for the City of Austin’s “Art In Public Places” program at the St. John Pocket Park. He is also the founder of “ATX Artist Social,” a vehicle for facilitating networking opportunities for artists and amplifying the voices of creatives.
